In the charming village of Hulsberg, in the middle of the beautiful Dutch Hills, B & B Den oude Herberg (‘The Old Inn’) is a cozy brasserie and a homely bed and breakfast in a historic setting. Reopened in 2018, The Old Inn has a rich history that is tangibly present in the building. The premises dates from the middle of the nineteenth century. Until the recent takeover by the new owners, it was always in the possession of the Hulsberg family Habets, who lived here for generations.

The guesthouse function is as old as the building itself. Started as an inn, the building most recently housed a small café, run by Math Habets. The regulars came here for a drink and a chat with fellow villagers. A dovecote in the backyard reminds of the previous owner’s hobby.

After several years of closure, the new owners have revived the inn. In doing so, they continue a rich tradition, in the spirit of the original function of the building.

B & B The Old Inn lies on the edge of the village of Hulsberg, at the bottom of the Klimmenerweg (500 m, 3.6% average). Within an 8 minutes drive and only 15 minutes by bike, you are in the bustling Valkenburg a/d Geul. A 20 minute car drive leads you to the historic city of Maastricht.

The nearby area is suited for a foot or bike ride. In just a 2 minutes walk, you’ll find yourself in the middle of free nature. The Hulsberg village center, with all its facilities, is just a stone’s throw away. Just like various cafes, restaurants and recreational facilities. We would love to give you a walking / cycling route or a tip for a lovely day out.

B & B The Old Inn is operated by host Jordy and hostess Linda van Belkom, proud parents of a son and daughter. They are fully committed to making your stay a memorable one. For years the couple had the idea for a bed & breakfast. When in 2016 the opportunity to acquire the property arose, they grabbed it with both hands.

After two years of rebuilding themselves, with the help of family and friends, they opened a bed & breakfast in 2018, bordering their own home. With this, a long-lasting dream was realized. Jordy and Linda are planning to open a ‘petit brasserie’ next to their bed and breakfast, where you can get a snack and a drink.

The Old Inn is a modern B & B with an unmistakable nod to the past. Various authentic interior elements have been restored to their former glory during the renovation and are enriched with subtle references to the Limburg mining history.

At The Old Inn you are welcomed by a family atmosphere. This evokes memories of the time when Hulsberg counted several guesthouses. The benefited from the overflow of the overcrowded Valkenburg hotels, which referred their surplus of guests to guesthouses in the area, who offered bed and breakfast.

At The Old Inn you truely get the idea that you stay with family or acquaintances. Not an anonymous hotel, but a cosy place where you will soon feel at home—because of the intimate atmosphere, but especially because of the hospitality of the owners.

Guests staying in our brasserie or bed and breakfast can park in the parking lot near the church. Guests of the brasserie can park in the public parking lot near the church. Do you travel by two-wheeler? You can leave this securely in our locked garage.
